Choose the size and layout

Full-size: standard machines are approximately 60cm wide. They generally offer more rack space for pans, plates and entertaining.
Slimline: these are approximately 45cm wide, useful where a full-width niche is not available. They can still suit everyday use, but have less internal loading space.
Exact fit: heights and depths vary. Measure the opening, worktop height, door movement and the model's required clearances.
Racks: look at your largest plates, pans, glasses and cutlery. Place settings are a comparison figure; the real question is whether your everyday items fit the supplied rack layout.

Programmes and labels

The eco programme is the reference programme shown on the label. Dishwasher labels show A–G class, energy per 100 eco cycles, water use per eco cycle, capacity, eco-cycle duration and noise information. Compare those figures between similar machines. If the kitchen opens into living space, the supplied noise figure may be as useful as a special programme.
